Police are cracking down on people who dodge Nevada registration

The state highway patrol will be cracking down on those of you who live in Nevada, but haven’t registered your cars here yet. They are honing in on those who have been avoiding the Nevada state registration fees. When somebody moves to Nevada, they have 30 days to register their vehicles here, failure to do so is a misdemeanor and will result in a $1,000 fine.

In announce the enforcement effort, the Department of Public Safety cited the cost difference between registering a car in Nevada and Oregon. In Washoe County, a $25,000 vehicle costs $350 to register for one year. In Oregon, the cost would be $195 and good for four years, that is a huge price difference. So if you haven’t registered yet, it would be wise to do so, you don’t want to get stuck with such a steep fine.

  • Signaling inconsistent with driving actions

  • Turning abruptly or illegally
  • Accelerating or decelerating rapidly
  • Driving with Headlights off
  • Turning with a wide radius
  • Straddling center of lane marker
  • Appearing to be drunk (based on posture, gestures, etc.)
  • Almost striking object or vehicle
  • Weaving
  • Driving on other than designated highway
  • Swerving
  • Speed more than 10 mph below limit
  • Stopping without cause in traffic lane
  • Following too closely
  • Drifting

After you have been pulled over, they look for slowed reaction time, blood shot eyes, and the odor of alcohol.

1st Drunk Driving Conviction

  • Jail – From 2 Days to 6 Months
  • Fine – From $400 to $1,000
  • License Suspension – 90 Days
  • Restricted License Possible After Half of Suspension is Served

  • Community Service – 96 Hours (If Allowed – Instead of Jail Time

  • May be Subject to Vehicle Registration Suspension
  • 1 Year Supervised DUI Program or Treatment (Possible)
