Do you really need to hire an attorney for a traffic ticket? Well, no, if you like dealing with the courts on your own, or you don’t mind extra points on your driving record, and the increases in insurance rates that are sure to follow. Let’s review for a moment what Ticket Busters does and how it can improve your situation when you receive a ticket. And, most likely, you will receive a ticket at some point in your driving life.
You have several options when you get a ticket in Las Vegas or surrounding Clark County. Let’s review the options and suggest some potential solutions.
What to do if you get a ticket
Nothing. Not a good option and will likely lead to another reason you might need an attorney. A traffic ticket is not an admission of guilt. However, it does compel you to appear in court to resolve a criminal issue. If you blow off a ticket, the outcome will be, your name will be called in traffic court on the date specified on the ticket and, if you are not present, the magistrate will issue another more stringent invitation to court called a bench warrant. A bench warrant will authorize law enforcement entities to arrest you and take you to jail in order to force an appearance in court. If you’re in this situation, Ticket Busters can assist in “quashing” the warrant, which once approved by a judge, will cancel the bench warrant. We don’t recommend this option.
Pay the Traffic Ticket. While 95% of drivers who get tickets go online or wait in line at the courthouse to pay the ticket, you are, by that action, pleading guilty to the charge. The conviction will show on your driving record, and points will be added by DMV, which could lead to a license suspension. We don’t recommend this option.
Appear in Court. Most traffic courts are packed, and there is no guarantee when your case will be called. You could invest a large portion of a day waiting in court for your case. You’ll be asked how you plead. Your response can be, guilty, not guilty, or no contest. If you plead guilty, then you’ll be fined and charged court costs, and the ticket will reflect in your point totals with DMV. No need to appear in court if you plan to plead guilty or no contest. If you plead not guilty, you’ll probably be given another day to appear, when you will need to present your evidence to the court and at the end of that, you’ll still most likely be found guilty with all the same effects. We don’t recommend this option either.
Contact Ticket Busters. Here’s what we’ll do, we negotiate the ticket with the applicable Clark County court, and in most cases, we can reduce the charge to a non-moving violation, which has no points attached. This has the effect of keeping additional points from accumulating on your DMV record, and does not result in increased insurance rates. We will also negotiate the fine and in many cases can obtain a reduced fine. We also can ask that traffic school be waived in in many cases can remove that requirement, but if the magistrate requires it, we can also assist with traffic school.
