Aged traffic tickets, they don’t go away. Many procrastinators feel that by ignoring a problem long enough, it will cease to be a problem. If you have received a traffic ticket, not dealing with it and letting it age will only cause increasingly difficult problems to resolve. This is not a sales pitch; it’s just a fact.
At some point, you’ll either want or need to resolve the problem, whether you’re getting a renewed driver’s license, or to register your vehicle, or to gain employment or a myriad of other reasons. When that time comes, the cost and difficulty of resolving it have now increased geometrically.
In Nevada, a traffic ticket is taken seriously. Failure to appear on the designated court date will result in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest. If you receive a subsequent ticket after a bench warrant is issued, you may get, not just another ticket, but a trip to jail. Or if you go to the police on any other matter, not related to tickets, you may also be arrested and taken to jail once you’ve identified yourself to them.
Beyond jail, there are other processes at work in the background. The Department of Motor Vehicles, which operates separately of the courts, is notified of the ticket shortly after it is issued. It’s also notified if a ticket is not resolved within the proper period. A failure to appear in court may result in a suspension of your license. If you feel that moving out of state will solve the problem, know now that these things can and will follow you. A suspended license is shared with all 50 states.
Your insurance company is similarly notified in such cases and will cancel your policy if a suspended license is not resolved in a timely manner. If this goes on for an extended period, even after resolving the suspension, your rates will be increased.
So, when that day comes that you need to resolve the problem of an aged traffic ticket, the cost and difficulty of handling an inexpensive ticket may now cost several hundred dollars, in some cases thousands of dollars, and a lot of tedious communications between various government entities.
But take heart, it’s not all bad news. These types of problems are why Ticket Busters is in business.
