It’s a startling statistic. Preliminary data shows motor vehicle occupant fatalities rose 60 percent in 2012 over 2011 in Clark County.
Not only that, Clark County is the only county in the state in which the unrestrained fatality percentage rose in 2012. More than 50 percent of motor vehicle occupant fatalities in Clark County were unrestrained in 2012.
To help get a handle on the situation, 29 law enforcement agencies from across the state will participate in the annual Click It or Ticket campaign from May 17 through June 2.
During the campaign, police will be citing people caught without seatbelts. It’s a $25 fine, but with court costs and administrative fees, you’re looking at $67.50.
Wearing your seatbelt doubles your chances of surviving a crash.
