The various law enforcement agencies in southern Nevada are slated to work together during Labor Day weekend to stem impaired driving deaths.
Henderson police announced Wednesday officers will stage a sobriety checkpoint on Friday from 7 p.m. until 3 a.m. the next morning on St. Rose Parkway, west of Eastern Avenue.
The announced checkpoint joins a previously disclosed enforcement event in Boulder City for Labor Day, Monday.
Las Vegas Metro police are expected to give details of its enforcement efforts in a news conference Thursday morning. Members of Henderson and North Las Vegas police departments, as well as Nevada Highway Patrol, are slated to join Metro in the enforcement period.
Authorities noted the significance of the enforcement effort as a means to save lives on the roadways. A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stat showed Labor Day weekend in 2011 had more fatalities than on the New Year’s holiday that year.
In Clark County, a total of four fatalities occurred on Labor Day weekend last year, Henderson police reported.
