With the Fourth of July landing on a Thursday this year, plenty of people will enjoy a four-day weekend. Some will drink and drive.
The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) will again partner with other law enforcement agencies to crack down on impaired driving. The NHP’s message is: if you’ll be drinking, designate a sober driver. If you drive impaired, you’ll be arrested.
“We have zero tolerance for impaired drivers who put themselves and everyone else on our roads at risk of serious injury or even death,” said NHP Trooper Loy Hixson. “Nevada’s goal is zero fatalities.”
The NHP further recommends that if you will be out drinking, plan a safe and sober way to return home before going out. If you’re impaired, call a taxi, a sober friend or use public transportation.
If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 311.
Police will set up sobriety checkpoints throughout southern Nevada over the Independence Day holiday.
