Did You Know? If you get a ticket while driving in Clark County, it may have a lasting impact on your life and record. It is important to follow the instructions stated on the ticket you received. Details regarding an appearance in court on a designated date and time may be identified. If a ticketed driver fails to abide by the instructions on the ticket, failing to appear in court on an appointed date and time or not paying the ticket prior to the designated date, may result in additional penalties, fines or may have a lasting negative impact. The reality is tickets are a serious matter and shouldn’t be taken lightly or ignored.
Accumulating Fines
In many cases, tickets are not solely written and issued for one single violation, but rather multiple. If you are speeding and also have an expired vehicle registration or driver’s license, fines may add up very quickly. Another example is if you were on your phone or texting while driving, even at a stoplight, you can be cited for distracted driving in Nevada. Traffic violations combined carry additional costs and fines. Common violations in Nevada include:
- Speeding
- Seatbelts and car seat violations
- Using a cell phone while driving or distracted driving
- Running a red light
- Driving under the influence
It’s important to note, any failure to pay your fines or resolve traffic citations may result in the issuance of a warrant, and additional increased fines may result. In Nevada, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) may also suspend your license. If you or a loved one has received a citation for a traffic violation not requiring an appearance in court, fees and fines may be paid online, by mail, or in person, for most circumstances. Payments are not allowed over the phone.
For juveniles, payments for issued citations may not be made online and all juveniles are required to appear with their legal guardian.
Traffic Safety Schools
If you are guilty of a moving violation, you may be eligible to attend Traffic Safety School. If you have not attended within a 12-month period of your violation, permission may be requested to attend Traffic Safety School through the Court Clerk. The only type of Traffic Safety School accepted are those approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). There are approved options available online or in-person through third-party organizations, and each may set their own schedules and/or rates. When completing Traffic Safety School, the attendee must email, fax, mail or hand deliver their certificate to the Court in order for the violation to be amended.
