There are two circumstances when you would take Traffic Safety School. First you may voluntarily take traffic safety school if you have demerit points on your Nevada DMV traffic record which exceed 3 points and are less than 11 points. Traffic Safety School will remove 3 points from your DMV record upon completion. You may only take one voluntary traffic safety school within a 12-month period. If your demerit point total exceeds 12 points in a 12-month period, the DMV will suspend your license.
The second circumstance is if you reached a plea bargain for your traffic ticket, and the court required traffic school as part of the settlement. This is usually done with drivers who are repeat offenders; first time violators will not usually be required to complete a traffic safety school. No points will be deducted from your DMV record for a court required traffic school.
What is involved in Traffic School?
Traffic Safety School is 5 hours of instruction and tests, of which you must score 80% or higher to pass. Upon completion of the course there is no need to contact the Nevada DMV to report course completion as the Traffic School will automatically report course completion directly to the DMV. However, upon successful completion you will be issued a Course Completion Certificate which you will be required to submit to the court if you are taking Traffic School as part of a court ordered settlement.
Traffic Schools are licensed by the Nevada DMV, but they do not rate, endorse or recommend one vendor over another. Each school sets their own prices, which you will be required to pay whether you are voluntarily attending traffic school or attending due to a court ordered settlement.
If your Ticket Busters negotiated settlement requires you to take Traffic School, we have established a relationship with gototrafficschool.com. This is an online course which can be completed in the comfort of your own home. Your Ticket Busters representative can give you more details regarding costs and requirements of this option. You can also find more information regarding this option on our website.
It should be noted that Traffic Safety School is not the same as a court ordered DUI School and attendance at a Traffic Safety School, whether voluntary or as a court ordered settlement will not fulfill the requirements of a DUI School. DUI Schools require more hours of course material to complete and are more expensive than Traffic Safety School and focus on impaired driving.
